School Caretaker/Handy Person

Ivel Valley School, Biggleswade

Salary: NJC Level 3A + 2 SEN points (point 17-20, £9.68-£10.27 per hour
Hours: Part-time, permanent

We are the Area Special School for the east of Central Bedfordshire and aim to provide a high quality, calm and caring learning environment, where pupils and staff are encouraged to reach their true potential. The school provides high standards of education for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities aged 3-19. Additionally, we have satellite classes based at local mainstream school sites which meet the needs of some of pupils who would benefit from the social inclusion these classes afford.

The successful candidate will be required to work with the two existing Site Agents to provide a clean and safe environment for users of the school buildings and grounds. We have identified a need to increase the site team but particularly to have someone on site throughout the school day. The existing Site Agents take the lead on all site issues including repairs, maintenance, security and daily cleaning but as they only work between 6:30-10:30 and 14:30 and 18:00 (because they are responsible for locking and unlocking the school and the overall security of the site) there is currently no-one on site with responsibility for these issues between 10:30 and 14:30. The successful post holder will be working across all sites in the hours when the Site Agents are not on site (10am – 3pm) and be responsible for remedial repairs, maintenance and planned and ad hoc cleaning during this time.

This is an exciting time to join the school and play a role in our future development. For further details, including our prospectus please visit our website at: www.ivelvalley.beds.sch.uk.

Ivel Valley School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The appointment is subject to the receipt of satisfactory references and an enhanced Disclosure and barring Service check.
